What is the Belt in a Car?

Typically, when we talk about a "belt" in a car, we're talking about the drive belt or serpentine belt. The serpentine belt is a vital part of an automobile's engine and one of the parts in charge of running numerous systems and accessories. The systems and components in the vehicle include:

  1. Alternator

The alternator is powered by the belt, which also charges the battery and supplies power to the car's electrical system.

  2. Power Steering Pump

It also gives the steering system power assistance, which makes it easier for the driver to spin the steering wheel.

  3. Air Conditioning Compressor

The belt powers the air conditioning compressor, which enables the system to cool the car's interior.

  4. Water Pump

For temperature control, some cars use a water pump that is driven by the belt to move coolant around the engine.

The serpentine belt is designed to be durable and long-wearing, but it can become cracked and faulty over time. It is important to routinely inspect and replace it to ensure that the car operates correctly. You should also go over other key parts and systems that require maintenance, such as the air filter, brake system, tires, battery, and exhaust system, to name a few.
